Illustrated Guides
The Illustrated Guides are a collaboration between Tiernan Morgan and artist Lauren Purje. Each illustrated essay delves into a subject related to art and its theorization. The series breaks down complex topics in order to make them more accessible.
Lauren graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor’s degree in painting and moved to New York in 2012 where she became a regular cartoonist for Hyperallergic. She has received critical acclaim for her autobiographical illustrations, paintings, and installations. Her work delves into her life as a working artist, its economic realities, and her ongoing battles with the forces of inspiration, procrastination, joy, and self-doubt.
Her first book, You Might Be An Artist If…, was published by Top Shelf Productions in 2016.
